Happenings:

CSE COLOR RUN & GLOW FUNDRAISER: China Spring Elementary is teaming up with TeamFunded for our annual fundraiser. This year’s funds will help us expand Curiosity Cove and Create a sensory wall in the gymnasium.

All students who register by using the QR CODE and share the campaign will get to participate in the color run and glow party on October 31st. The class with the most donations will win a pizza party. The student with the most donations will win a Nintendo Switch Lite.

How it works:

1. Scan the above attached QR code and fill out the google form.

2. Download the TeamFunded App (login will be available after the campaign goes live on 10/14/24 at 8:00am)

3. Once the campaign is live and your account is activated share with friends and family.

4. Donations will be accepted until October 31st!

PTA DINE & DONATE: This Tuesday, October 22nd dine at Tres Hermanos (behind Baskin Robbins) from 11:00am-9:00pm and tell them you are there to support China Spring PTA. A portion of the proceeds will be donated back to the school!

GT NOMINATIONS: The window for Gifted and Talented nominations is now open for the Fall of 2024. Please click THIS LINK and fill out the form if you would like to nominate your student for consideration to participate in GT services. The window will be open from October 14th – October 24th, 2024. If you have any questions, please email the school counselor, Carrie Featherston at cfeatherston@chinaspringisd.net .

Please note if your child was tested in the Spring of 2024, they will not be able to test this round. One full calendar year must pass before your child may be tested again.

3RD & 4TH GRADE SWARM EVENT: To kick-off Red Ribbon Week Waco PD has selected our 3rd and 4th graders for their Annual SWARM event. On October 22nd several emergency response departments will be on campus from 1:00pm-2:30pm. CSE will host the McLennan County Sheriff’s Helicopter, Woodway PD’s SWAT Vehicle, DEA, Connally and CSISD Police Department, and a drug dog. Please don’t be alarmed by the presence of the emergency vehicles on campus on the 22nd.

RED RIBBON WEEK: Red Ribbon Week is a week-long campaign that raises awareness about drug, tobacco, alcohol, and smoking prevention. As part of our week long campaign, we will have the following dress up days:

Monday, October 28th ~ RALLY IN RED ~ Wear red and rally against drugs!

Tuesday, October 29th ~ PEACE OUT TO DRUGS ~ Wear tie-dye and bright colors to say peace out to drugs!

Wednesday, October 30th ~ DRUG FREE FROM HEAD TO TOE ~ Wear crazy socks and hair to celebrate being drug free from head to toe!

Thursday, October 31st ~ SPOOK OUT DRUGS ~ Wear all white for the color run and glow party to spook out drugs!

3rd GRADE FIELD TRIP: We are excited to announce that the 3rd grade class will be attending a special private performance of “The Old Man and the Old Moon” by the China Spring Theatre Department on Wednesday, November 6th 2024. Buses will depart CSE at 8:30am and return to campus by 11:00am. Please understand this is a private performance for the 3rd graders only, and outside visitors and chaperones will not be permitted to attend. Permission forms went home this week and are due by November 1st.

2ND GRADE MUSICAL: Second grade will be performing a “SALUTE TO OUR VETERANS for protecting the land that we love” on Monday, November 11th. Our “WHITE” classes (Peters, Jolliff, Hughes and Stubbs) will perform at 8:30am. Our “BLUE” classes (Foley, Honeycutt, Symank, and Carlile) will perform at 9:30am. Mrs. Kahle’s class will be split between these performance (it depends on the class they go with to Specials/PE). Everyone is welcome! Please invite friends and family members who are Veterans so that we may thank them with this special tribute!

**Students should dress in patriotic red, white and blue attire for the performance.

BENCHMARK TESTING: The reading benchmark (STAAR Practice Test) will take place on Tuesday, November 12th. The math benchmark (STAAR Practice Test) will take place on Tuesday, November 19th. Please make sure your students arrive to school on time and refrain from checking them out early on these days. ALSO, NO VISITORS WILL BE PERMITTED ON CAMPUS ON BENCHMARK AND STAAR TEST DAYS (INCLUDING LUNCH VISITORS).

• ATTENDANCE REMIDNERS:

*90% Law ~ The state of Texas requires students to be present 90% of the school year in order to receive credit for their current grade level.

*Daily attendance ~ Attendance is taken every day at 9:30AM. Your student must be on campus at this time to be counted present for the day.

*When absent ~ Only 4 days total per semester can be excused by a PARENT NOTE (parent signed excuse). For all absences exceeding 4, a doctor's note or other formal documentation is required.

*All excuse notes must be turned in to the Front Office within 3 school days of the student’s absence.

• NURSE’S NOTES:

*Sickness: Please remember to keep your child home for 24 hours if they have a fever, are vomiting or have diarrhea. They must be symptom free without medication for 24 hours before returning to school. Your child may only return before 24 hours if cleared by a physician and have the physician’s note stating the okay to return.

*Medications: All medications, prescriptions and over-the0counter, must have signed orders from the doctor and also parent signature to have at school. All medications must be in original container with prescription label visible and legible.

• DRESS CODE REMINDERS:

*The dress code will be enforced at all times. Students out of dress code will be sent to the office and given the opportunity to change clothes.

*Please see the reminder for dress code in regards to our handbook:

*Hemlines on all dresses, skirts, and shorts must not be shorter than mid-thigh length (typically no shorter than 7” inseam or fingertip length).

*Pants may not have holes above mid-thigh length. No sagging pants are allowed.

*Tights, leggings, or spandex may only be worn with a shirt, skirt, dress, or shorts that cover both the front and the back (no sheer panels; no skin may show through).

*Tank tops must have a strap at least 2” wide. No crop tops, mid-drift tops or tube tops are allowed.

• TRANSPORTATION REMINDERS:

*Morning car riders ~ Please use the car rider loops in the back of the school for morning drop-off. Students are NOT allowed to be dropped off in the front of the school until after the car line barriers are in place.

*Afternoon car riders ~ In the afternoon car rider line a SCHOOL-ISSUED car rider sign is required. If the sign is not visible to the staff calling names you will be asked to go to the Front Office to check your student out with an ID.

*Bus Riders ~ For safety, students are only allowed to ride their assigned bus. They are not allowed to ride home with another student.

*CSISD District bus policy ~ any student 2nd grade or younger must have a parent or guardian at the bust stop in the afternoon. If a parent or guardian is not present the student will be brought back to the school upon completion of the bus route for the parent/guardian to pick up.

*Early dismissal ~ If you wish to pick your student up early from school you must do so before 3:30PM. A photo ID will be required to check your student out.

*Transportation Change ~ If there is a change to your child’s normal mode of transportation in the afternoon, you must notify the Front Office by 2:30PM to ensure they get dismissed as requested.

• CAFETERIA REMINDERS:

*Breakfast ~ 7:00AM-7:45AM - In order for your student to receive breakfast service in the cafeteria, they must arrive to school prior to 7:45AM.

*Lunch ~

2nd Grade – 11:00AM - 11:40AM

3rd Grade - 11:45AM - 12:15PM

4th Grade - 12:20PM - 12:50PM

*If you wish to eat lunch with your student a photo ID is required to check-in at the Front Office. Only visitors on the student’s contact list will be permitted.

*If you wish to drop off food for your student to be delivered to the “cafeteria pick up table” by the Front Office please make sure it is labeled with their first and last name and teacher name.

*Deliveries from third party vendors like DoorDash and GrubHub are not permitted.

*4th Graders are permitted to use the microwaves in the cafeteria. Please make sure they know how to use a microwave and prepare the food packed in their lunch boxes. Please also send, microwave safe containers for their food.

*PLEASE DO NOT SEND GLASS FOOD CONTAINERS IN LUNCH BOXES.
