Happenings:
25-26 SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS: In preparation for next school year the 2025-2026 China Spring Elementary school supply kit is now available for pre-order. These kits are for rising 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders. Please use THIS LINK to purchase your student’s kit today! The deadline to order Elementary kits is June 15th.
If you currently have a 4th grade student who will be moving on to the Intermediate campus next year, please use THIS LINK to order their 25-26 school supply kit. The deadline for Intermediate kit orders is May 23rd.
4TH GRADE FUTURE CHEF CULINARY COMPETITION: Calling all 4th grade “future chefs” for our annual culinary competition on Tuesday, May 6th at 4:15pm-7:00pm! If your student’s recipe was selected for the competition you will be contacted by the district nutrition team with more details.
4th GRADE FIELD TRIP: Our 4th grade students will be taking a field trip to the Waco Mammoth National Monument on Tuesday, May 13th (Donner, Laine, Robinson, K. McNew & Anderson’s classes) and Tuesday, May 20th (Stewart, Rutherford, Stafford, Kerr, Driver & C. McNew’s classes). Students will explore fossil remains, learn about paleontology, and participate in hands-on activities that support our science curriculum. After visiting the mammoth site, we will travel to Cameron Park to eat lunch and play at the playground.
*Due to space restrictions, parents may not attend the Waco Mammoth National monument portion of the trip, but you are welcome to meet us at Cameron Park during lunch at 11:45am. Parents may also sign out their child after lunch at Cameron Park with their child’s homeroom teacher.
A permission form will be sent home soon. The cost of the trip is $4.00. We will depart the Elementary at approximately 8:30am and return by 1:15pm. Please have your child either bring a sack lunch or pre-order one from the cafeteria. Students should also bring a water bottle and comfortable walking shoes.
4TH GRADE TOUR OF CHINA SPRING INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL: On Wednesday, May 14th the 4th grade will be visiting the Intermediate school. They will receive a tour of the campus and enjoy a brief assembly with Dr. Harris and staff. Tours will begin at 8:50am and the last tour will conclude and all students will be back on campus at CSE by 11:10am. This tour is for students only. Parents will have an opportunity to view the campus in August.
2ND GRADE FIELD TRIP: Second graders will be taking a field trip to places around Waco on Monday, May 19th. On this field trip, students will have the opportunity to explore three major Waco landmarks and learn about how Waco has changed over time. We will visit Indian Spring Park, Ms. Nellie’s Pretty Place (Cameron Park), and the Magnolia Silos. We will leave school at 12:00pm and return around 3:00pm. Lunch will be eaten at school – a sack lunch is not necessary.
This trip is free of charge to all students. Please do NOT send money with your child, as we will be unable to purchase anything while at the locations. Parents are welcome to join us as long as they are on the approved volunteer list. A more detailed schedule will be sent out when we are closer to the field trip date.
2ND GRADE MARKET DAY: Second grade will be hosting their Annual Market Day – a fun, hands-on experience that allows students to practice buying, selling, saving, and spending money. Market Day will take place on Wednesday, May 21st.
During this event, students will sell products they’ve created to their classmates using fake money provided by the school. Each student should create 25 of the same item to sell in their “store.” Please send all necessary materials to school by Tuesday, May 13th so we have plenty of time to complete the products in class. (Some simple item ideas… bracelets, paper air planes, bookmarks, stress balls, etc.).

3rd GRADE FIELD TRIP: Third grade will be taking a field trip to Waco Wetlands on Wednesday, May 21st or Tuesday, May 27th. Due to the number of students in third grade we will go on two separate days. The date for your child’s field trip is listed with their teacher below. On this field trip students will have the opportunity to tour the Waco Wetlands, experience local plants and wildlife and see why our environment needs wetlands.

We will load buses at 8:15am and will be returning to school by 11:45am. Therefore, we will be eating lunch at school. However, please send labeled perishable water bottles and a snack for your child. All parents are welcome to attend, if on the approved volunteer list. Parent’s may check out their own child after the field trip.
ACADEMIC AWARD CEREMONY: To celebrate our student’s academic success this year we will be hosting our Annual Academic Award Ceremony on Thursday, May 22nd in the gym. Each grade will be celebrated at the following times:
9:00am- 3rd Grade
10:00am-2nd Grade
11:00am- 4th grade.
If your student will be receiving an award a personal invitation will be sent home in the next few weeks.
COUGAR OLYMPICS: Cougar Olympics will take place on Tuesday, May 27th and Wednesday, May 28th. Please make sure your student comes prepared in athletic clothes, tennis shoes and with a water bottle. Each grade will participate in their Olympic events at the times below...

REPORT CARDS: Final report cards for the 2024-2025 school year will be available on parent portal on Thursday, May 29th.
END OF YEAR PARTIES: End of year class parties will take place on the last day of school, Friday, May 30th. We ask that each student has a limit of 2 guests and no siblings attend. Each grade will celebrate at the following times:
9:00am-9:30am ~ 4th Grade
10:00am-10:30am ~ 3rd Grade
11:00am-11:30am ~ 2nd grade
The last day of school is an early dismissal day at 12:30pm. If you wish to sign your student out early from the party you may do so with the teacher, but are required to be on the student’s approved pick-up list.
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL – EARLY RELEASE: Friday, May 30th is the last day of school and will be an early release day. Normal dismissal procedures will take place at 12:30pm.

TARDY REMINDERS:
The tardy bell rings at 8:00AM, and every three tardies will count as one unexcused absence. It is crucial to ensure your student arrives at school on time, as excessive tardies can accumulate and potentially lead to truancy issues. Let’s work together to establish strong attendance habits and set our students up for success!
ATTENDANCE REMINDERS:
90% Law ~ The state of Texas requires students to be present 90% of the school year in order to receive credit for their current grade level.
Daily attendance ~ Attendance is taken every day at 9:30AM. Your student must be on campus at this time to be counted present for the day.
When absent ~ Only 4 days total per semester can be excused by a PARENT NOTE (parent signed excuse). For all absences exceeding 4, a doctor's note or other formal documentation is required.
All excuse notes must be turned in to the Front Office within 3 school days of the student’s absence.
NURSE’S NOTES:
o Sickness:
Please remember to keep your child home for 24 hours if they have a fever, are vomiting or have diarrhea. They must be symptom free without medication for 24 hours before returning to school. Your child may only return before 24 hours if cleared by a physician and have the physician’s note stating the okay to return.
o Medications:
All medications, prescriptions and over-the counter, must have signed orders from the doctor and also parent signature to have at school. All medications must be in original container with prescription label visible and legible.
DRESS CODE REMINDERS:
o The dress code will be enforced at all times. Students out of dress code will be sent to the office and given the opportunity to change clothes.

Hemlines on all dresses, skirts, and shorts must not be shorter than mid-thigh length (typically no shorter than 7” inseam or fingertip length).
Pants may not have holes above mid-thigh length. No sagging pants are allowed.
Tights, leggings, or spandex may only be worn with a shirt, skirt, dress, or shorts that cover both the front and the back (no sheer panels; no skin may show through).
Tank tops must have a strap at least 2” wide. No crop tops, mid-drift tops or tube tops are allowed.
TRANSPORTATION REMINDERS:
Morning car riders ~ Please use the car rider loops in the back of the school for morning drop-off. Students are NOT allowed to be dropped off in the front of the school until after the car line barriers are in place.
Afternoon car riders ~ In the afternoon car rider line a SCHOOL-ISSUED car rider sign is required. If the sign is not visible to the staff calling names you will be asked to go to the Front Office to check your student out with an ID.
Bus Riders ~ For safety, students are only allowed to ride their assigned bus. They are not allowed to ride home with another student.
CSISD District bus policy ~ any student 2nd grade or younger must have a parent or guardian at the bust stop in the afternoon. If a parent or guardian is not present the student will be brought back to the school upon completion of the bus route for the parent/guardian to pick up.
o Early dismissal ~ If you wish to pick your student up early from school you must do so before 3:30PM. A photo ID will be required to check your student out.
o Transportation Change ~ If there is a change to your child’s normal mode of transportation in the afternoon, you must notify the Front Office by 2:30PM to ensure they get dismissed as requested.
CAFETERIA REMINDERS:
Breakfast ~ 7:00AM-7:45AM - In order for your student to receive breakfast service in the cafeteria, they must arrive to school prior to 7:45AM.
Lunch ~ 2nd Grade – 11:00AM - 11:40AM
3rd Grade - 11:45AM - 12:15PM
4th Grade - 12:20PM - 12:50PM
· If you wish to eat lunch with your student a photo ID is required to check-in at the Front Office. Only visitors on the student’s contact list will be permitted.
· If you wish to drop off food for your student to be delivered to the “cafeteria pick up table” by the Front Office please make sure it is labeled with their first and last name and teacher name.
· Deliveries from third party vendors like DoorDash and GrubHub are not permitted.
o ONLY 3rd and 4th Graders are permitted to use the microwaves in the cafeteria. Please make sure they know how to use a microwave and prepare the food packed in their lunch boxes. Please also send, microwave safe containers for their food.
o Please do not send items that need reheated for 2nd graders, they are not permitted to use the microwaves.
o PLEASE DO NOT SEND GLASS FOOD CONTAINERS IN LUNCH BOXES.
